Tips for Getting Back in Shape in 2018
So Christmas and New Year’s are over, you haven’t been to the gym since late November and you let your diet slip enough to gain an extra kilo or two (you’re actually not sure because you're too afraid to look). Never fear, that’s what the festive season is all about. However, now it’s time to get back on the wagon. Here are some helpful tips to help you get back in shape in 2018.
Increase Water Consumption and Avoid Alcohol
You probably don't really want to think about drinking after the festive season, but it is worth stating that the first step to getting back in shape in the new year is avoiding alcohol in January. Replace the booze with plenty of water, you might want to add some lemon or other fruits to your water to add alkaline, nutrients and minerals.
Cut Out Sugar
This is the easiest way to lose weight fast. While cutting something out entirely can be unsustainable, it is worth ditching sugar for the first couple of months of 2018 to get your weight loss off and running.
No White Bread, Rice, Flour or Pasta
Bad news. Here are some more things to avoid. If you really want to ditch that Christmas belly fast, cutting these white carbs from your diet is the fastest way to do it. Even better, go gluten free. What do I eat? we hear you screaming, try brown rice, buckwheat, cornmeal and quinoa. These delicious, gluten-free ingredients will help you get back in shape for the new year.
Eat the Rainbow
Eating healthy doesn’t have to be a bad time, treat yourself to colourful meals filled with the whole rainbow of organic fruits and vegetables. Make it easier by having the fruit and vegetables delivered to your house.
Pre Cut Vegetables
Get those nasty sugar snacks out of your house and replace them with pre-cut vegetables like celery and carrots. When you open your fridge and see a bunch of chopped carrots it makes it a lot harder to reach for the Tim Tams instead.
If you don’t feel like heading back to the gym, why not try something new in 2018? Exercise is so much more than running on a treadmill for an hour. It’s a new year, and a new you so challenge yourself to something different and exciting. Maybe you want to take up ballet? Or rock climbing? The options are endless.
Avoid Red Meat
Not many people realise that your protein needs can be covered by loading up of vegetables such as spinach and broccoli. If you really can’t go without meat replace red meat with cold water fish and organic poultry but keep portions to the size of a deck of cards.
